Bonface Mutua
Sibling: V Dennis Nzomo
Bonface Mutua is 15 years old and was rescued from the streets of Mathare, one of Nairobi’s biggest slums. He comes from a single mother who is HIV positive and ailing. Bonface and his younger brother V Dennis took to the streets when their mother could no longer provide for them. In the streets, Bonface joined a dangerous gang called Gaza and was already smoking bhang and tobacco by the time he connected with the home. He had to go through a rehabilitation process and he’s now fully recovered. The two brothers have now been in the home for over 5 years.
Paul Anthony
Siblings: Grace Wangui & Catherine Wanjiku
Paul Anthony is 7 years old and has two siblings, Catherine Wanjiku and Grace Wangui, one of whom (Grace) also lives the orphanage. The three siblings were rescued from Soweto slums, a slum near Zimmerman. During the day, they would go to the streets of the slum to fend for their meals. They have a surviving mother who is an alcoholic. They were rescued by neighbors who got concerned about the state of their living. Their mother would bring men to the house and expose them to abuse. The three children have now been in the home for nearly 3 years, although sister Catherine Wanjiku (who still has emotional scars of abuse and needs counseling) recently left the home to be with her mother.
Nelius Gacheri
Nelius Gacheri is a 10 year old girl whose mother is a street girl and a drug addict. She has three other siblings, all in different homes. The three were rescued by a child officer from the streets of Githurai and brought to BLCRC. They have a surviving grandmother who lives in Githurai but she’s a drug dealer who sells Bhang. It’s in the streets that Nelius got exposed to sexual abuse. Nelius was brought to BLCRC when she was 7 years old, she has now been in the home for 3 years.
Lavine Adhiambo
Lavine Adhiambo is an older teen girl who has four siblings in the home. The children live in a nearby slum with their ailing father. Lavine’s mother died while giving birth to Christine Aluoch, their last born, who was brought to the home when she was one month old. After their mother’s burial, Lavine’s father was beaten up by thugs while going home in the evening. He was badly injured and for one year, he could barely walk. For this reason, he has not been able to properly fend for his five children. During the past four years, the five siblings have been receiving food, clothing and education through the home.
Brighton Ngige
Brighton was rescued from Zimmerman streets by a social worker. The father’s identity is unknown, and the mother lives in the streets of Nairobi. Brighton was living with an abusive grandmother and neighbors reported the case after noticing that Brighton would run away to spend the night under a tree. Brighton has now been living full-time at BLCRC for 4 years.
Darius Peris
Darius Peris is five years old now and has been coming the home for 4 years. Darius’ mom is a single parent struggling to get a job and she is also a victim of domestic violence. She lives in a nearby slum and volunteers at BLCRC. Her 2-years elder sister Veronicah Nyambura, is also a beneficiary of the home’s programs.
Prince John
Sibling: Tracy Waithera
The two have now been coming to the home for over 2 years. The two were enrolled in BLCRC after their both parents passed away in a traffic road accident. Both Prince and Tracy are still traumatized and are in need of counseling. They are currently living with their elderly grandmother who is jobless. Prince John & Tracy both benefit from BLCRC feeding, schooling and other basic needs.
